How to Use This Checklist
- Begin the audit by noting who conducted the inspection, the location, and when it took place.
- Work through the physical facility items, checking the building exterior for accumulated debris or rubbish, that exterior bins are clean and properly covered, and that doors and other external openings are well fitted so no light passes through.
- Inspect all window and door screens to confirm they are in place, well fitted, and in good condition.
- Check inside for accumulation of spilled food, liquid, or dust, confirm all food containers have lids, and that all food products are stored above the floor.
- Verify internal bins are emptied and removed daily, dirty dishes are cleaned before closing overnight, and hard-to-reach areas such as under grill lines, preparation tables, and shelving are cleaned frequently.
- Search for evidence of pests, including mouse droppings or urine stains, gnaw marks on boxes or equipment, insects on sticky traps, and signs of nesting such as piles of dust, debris, or insulation in quiet areas.
- Answer each inspection item with Yes, No, or NA.
- Record the inspection's real start and end dates, indicate when it was finished, and capture signatures.
- Where you find evidence of pests or conditions that could attract them, note the issue and assign corrective actions to the relevant person or team.

Why pest control matters
Pests pose a risk to food safety, hygiene, and the condition of your building and equipment. By inspecting for the conditions that attract pests and for signs they are already present, you can act early. This checklist helps you prevent and control infestations by reviewing the physical facility and searching for evidence.
What a good pest control inspection covers
A thorough inspection looks at both the environment that invites pests and the traces they leave behind. The physical side includes the building exterior and openings, waste storage, food storage and handling areas, and cleaning routines, especially in hard-to-reach places. The evidence side includes droppings and urine, gnaw damage, insects on traps, and nesting materials in undisturbed areas.
What the checklist includes
This pest control checklist contains 21 items across three sections: an audit section that records who, where, and when; a physical facility management section covering debris, bins, openings, screens, food storage, and cleaning; and a search-for-evidence section covering droppings, gnaw marks, insects, and nesting. Each inspection item is answered Yes, No, or NA.
How to use the checklist
Work through the checklist during your inspection, answering each item based on what you actually observe. Use the audit fields to record the inspection details and dates. Where an item reveals a problem, note it and assign a corrective action so it can be resolved by the right person or team.
