How to Use This Checklist
- Where a fitting or surface does not exist in the space you are inspecting, select N/A rather than leaving it unanswered. Read the observation questions about chemical dilution, color-coding, and waste segregation at the same time, since they ask you to confirm what is actually happening on the floor, not just describe a surface.
- Identify non-compliant items as they arise and record them by system — entrances and doors, low-level and high-level surfaces, sanitaryware and bathing, waste and consumables, equipment, and exterior areas — so the finished report points directly at what needs attention.
- The questions about chemicals, color-coded tools, and waste handling are observations, so answer them by looking at the evidence in front of you rather than relying on what should happen in theory.
- At the end of the inspection, record your signature and the real start and end times, along with the date, prepared-by name, and location established at the start. Those details give the record its context and make it possible to trace who inspected which area and when.

What this process is for
This checklist supports a cleaning audit that verifies regulatory compliance, optimizes cleaning performance, and upholds hygiene and safety standards across all facility operations. You use it to look at surfaces, fixtures, waste handling, and equipment, recording each finding against a consistent answer scale. The result is a documented, repeatable record of what was inspected, where, and by whom.
What a good audit covers
A thorough audit does not stop at what you can see at eye level. It works through the room or facility systematically, and it covers storage and equipment as well as surfaces. In practice that means checking: **Surfaces and structure** - Wall, floor, door, and internal glazing cleanliness, staining, and damage - Low-level surfaces below shoulder height for dust and sanitization - High-level surfaces above shoulder height for dust and cobwebs - Table and work surfaces, plus storage lockers and bedside cabinets inside and out, and curtains and blinds **Sanitaryware and bathing** - Toilet bowls, seats, cisterns, and surrounding areas - Shower tiles, grout, drainage, and fixtures, plus bath and basin surfaces, taps, and countertops - Mirror surfaces for streaks and smudges **Waste, consumables, and equipment** - Waste and recycling receptacles, including cleanliness, liners, and odor control - Consumable levels for soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer - Electrical fixtures, switches, and equipment for dust and safe condition - Cleaning equipment for condition, cleanliness, and proper storage **Compliance observations** The checklist also asks whether cleaning chemicals are used in line with manufacturer specifications, dilution ratios, and safety data sheets; whether mops, cloths, and tools are used and color-coded to minimize cross-contamination between zones; and whether waste is segregated, handled, and disposed of according to established waste management and infection-control protocols.
